This pack has two separate activities. You could do them on two separate occasions, or have half of your class work on the m&ms activity while the other half of the class works on task cards and then switch. (I did the half and half strategy, and the activities took about 30 minutes per group. Students only completed 12 task cards at a time though. They completed the task cards they had not yet worked on a different day.) I just continually move around the room checking students answers/progress and mark stars when it is correct or x’s when it needs to be reworked. Those x’s can easily be changed to stars when the answers are corrected. Bingo! No grading later.
Graphing M&Ms activity – I bought the originalr bags (around 10 oz. I think) of m&ms and gave each of my students a nice handful size of candies. They had around 50 m&ms, but after having done this once, I would say around 30 would be plenty! LOL. Each big bag will give you enough m&ms for 10-12 students. Or you could give each student the “fun size” package.
Task cards – I hang my task cards (Keep each set together as a group) around the room and give each student a clip board with their Graphing is Sweet recording sheet. I ask the students to spread out and start on different task cards. I just move around the room and help students as they need help. There are a total of 36 task cards!
